What should I buy electronic keyboard?

Looking to invest in starting an electronic keyboard, because I want to learn playing the piano. I bought a cheapie, but I hated the sound so that ended just throw in the trash. I'm definitely try not to spend over $ 500, and I want to spend less. I am ready to see craigslist for good deals and others. What should I buy? What accessories should I expect? Are there any books that teach the right chords and lyrics of songs at once?
